OC1 Fundamentals, Fine Tuning & Rolling

Course Description

This is a 5-day coaching course with a day set aside in the middle which will be more of a half day to get some rest and start looking at the motions and fundamentals of a roll in your OC1. The aims of this course are to give you a strong set of foundational skill which will allow you to have more control over your boat and understand how to utilise the power of the water through river reading and planning ahead. This will involve skills, drills and some journeying on a variety of Scotland’s stunning rivers and training venues. Venues will be carefully selected to suit the needs and abilities of the group. During the middle of the course, we will take a day to relax a little before, weather depending, heading out to a flat-water venue or indoor pool for a rolling clinic. This will be a chance for people to start their journey towards a successful roll or get help finishing off an almost their roll!

This course is suited for a range of abilities. We will predominantly be working within the grade 2/3 environment building up a strong understanding of boat control on easy water from the beginning of the week. You might be relatively new to OC1 and just purchased your boat or you might have been out surviving grade 3 maybe even the odd 4. The idea of this course is to give OC1 paddlers a clear understanding of how to train and feel in control of their boat. For those more experienced in more advanced water it may be that you have been surviving on luck or a paddle and hope technique and want to refine your paddling and understanding of white water. This course would also be suited to an experienced white-water kayaker looking to convert to OC1 as well!
